650 - the church and the ceremonial hill at Govan are part of the kingdom of the Clyde Britons which is ruled from Dumbarton Rock (pictured above). The king of Dumbarton has just won a great victory over the Scots of Dalriada (Argyll) and is now one of the most powerful kings in the British Isles.
